ERGYB IN-HOUSE BASKETBALL
The Elk River Girl’s Youth Basketball 2010 in-house season is upon us and here are some of the most frequently asked questions:
Who is in-house basketball for? In-House basketball is a community based developmental program for beginning or less experienced players in which they will learn the fundamentals of basketball with practices and games. 1st and 2nd graders will play together in the same league. 3rd and 4th graders play together in the same league. 5th and 6th graders play together in the same league. It is not uncommon to have players without any basketball experience playing for the first time even at the 5th and 6th grade levels and much more so at the 1st thru 4th grade levels. 7th thru 9th grade will play in the same league against other Elk River teams but also against Roger’s teams. New to this upcoming Fall season we will offer a 10th-12th grade in-house program that will also compete against Roger’s teams. In-House basketball should not be used as a “tune-up” for the Travel season.
When does the season begin and end? Practices will begin the week of September 13th with games beginning Saturday, September 25th for 1st thru 6th grade. The season ends after the year-end tournament Saturday, November 20th. There is also a mid-season jamboree on Saturday, October 16th in which most teams will play 2 games. Grades 7th thru 9th and 10th-12th will typically have their practices begin one or two weeks after the other grades and games will begin Saturday, October 2nd.
When will my daughter find out what night she practices and what team she is on? Coaches for grades 1st thru 6th will get their rosters at the coaches clinic on Saturday, September 11th at which time they will also get their practice time. Coaches will start contacting their players sometime on Saturday, September 11th or Sunday, September 12th. Coaches will also notify the players on what night of the week they chose to have practice. The practice night varies from team to team depending on the coaches schedule. Grades 7th thru 9th and 10th-12th will typically have everything moved back by 1 or 2 weeks.
How often and how long are practices? 1st and 2nd graders will practice for 1 hour 1 night per week. 3rd and 4th graders will also practice for 1 hour 1 night per week. 5th and 6th graders will practice for two 1-hour practices per week or may have one 2 hour-long practice per week dependent on what the coach chooses. 7th thru 9th and 10th -12th graders may practice similar to the 5th and 6th graders but may depend on the amount of interest.
What if my child has other things during the week like religion, dance, or volleyball? Please let us know on the on-line registration if you have any nights that conflict with potential practices. We can’t make any guarantees that it will not conflict with other schedules but we do try our best to accommodate.
How do I register and what is the cost? All registration will be done online this year. Please complete the registration using SportsPilot. Hard copy forms will not be accepted. The link to SportsPilot is https://www.sportspilot.com/register/regbegin.asp?asoid=105718 . Cost for 1st and 2nd grade is $60. Cost for 3rd thru 12th grades is $80.
What about coaching? Volunteer coaches are needed for the In-House program. Please let us know on the registration form if you are interested in being a head coach or an assistant. We will have a mandatory coach’s clinic on Saturday, September 11th. The clinic will help better equip the coaches but it will also be to choose practice times, get team rosters, review the rules, and to get equipment bags. We will also need to get the information for mandatory background checks that are done on all coaches.
How are teams formed? Team rosters will be formed by the In-House Director based on the coach’s evaluations received from the previous year. Teams will be formed as equal as possible for skill level, height, number of girls on each team and nights of conflict with other activities. Girls of the head and assistant coach will not be placed on a roster. The coach’s daughter will follow the coach to the team that coach is assigned. There will be no “trading” of players without the approval of the In-House Director and both head coaches.
Please contact the In-House Director with any other questions.
If a scholarship is required, please contact president@ergyb.org.
Questions or concerns should be sent to haackfamily@charter.net or president@ergyb.org.
