FAQS

If questions are not answered here, information may also be available on the In-House or Travel pages, or you can email us too.

If you have a topic-specific question, you can address an email to the board members managing this area.

When will I know practice days or times?

Community Education schedules gym times after teams have been formed and coaches selected. Team members are informed as soon as possible after the association and coaches are officially informed.

For In-House teams, one factor of team selection is practice night availability. The directors do their best to try to accommodate these requests if they are submitted during registration or prior to team selection. Practice days and times for your child are not normally known until after the pre-season coach meeting. Practice times are finalized the week prior to practice starting.

The general In-House  page has dates and details for the season.
The 2023-2024 season details are here.

For Travel teams, coaches do their best to accommodate all players  on their team.

Why is the In-House league in the fall, instead of the winter?

The 'regular' basketball season is November-March, but the In-House season ends before this.

The primary reason this occurs is logistics. There are simply not enough gyms in the Elk River area to host practices and games in November - March. These gyms also service ERBYB practice and games, volleyball, and Boys and Girls High School Basketball.

Why are Travel Tryouts so early?

It might feel a little odd and unnecessary to hold travel tryouts the second week of school when the season doesn’t start  until Mid-October.

The reason we have to do this is that if we don’t have a travel spot for all of the girls who try out for the travel teams, we provide them the option of competing in the In-House program.

The In-House program starts in early September, so we like to make sure that any players that are moved to that program don’t miss practices and games for their In-House team.

We also need to form teams early in the fall to ensure adequate gym space is reserved for the number of travel teams we are going to have for the season.

Why can't we practice more often?

Community Ed manages and allocates gym use  for all  youth organizations in our school district.  As such, they dictate gym time allotment based on age/grade level and competition level.

The policy that Community Ed provides requires
practice duration based on grade & program level:

Travel Programs

  • Grades 5- 8: 3 hours per week
  • Grades 4 : 2 hours per week

In-House Programs

  • Grades 1 - 4:  1 hour per week

Individual coaches have the choice/option of allocating their time allotment into one practice or two depending on player/coach schedules.

What is the Elk River Traveling Roster Size?

The goal of ERGYB is to develop the youth of Elk River while at the same time providing a quality competitive atmosphere for our athletes.

ERGYB has committed to players, parents, and coaches that roster size will be a minimum of 8 and a maximum of 10 as identified in the Parent, Player and Coach handbook. The actual number on each roster is dependent upon a number of factors.

A critical component of team size is to avoid cutting travel-ready players from the travel program.  Team size will be at the board's discretion with the help of the head coach and the evaluators.

How do I stop getting emails from ergyb.org?

We use the same Sports Engine website management tool as other youth sports registrations like Boys Basketball, youth or High School Football, Volleyball, Baseball, High School Soccer Booster Club, Midwest 3 on 3, etc.

As part of registering your daughter to a previous ERGYB offering, you also created an associated SportsEngine account to get team notifications.

Because these are your personal settings at Sports Engine, we cannot change or remove you from our mailing lists.

In order to stop getting emails, you will have to change this setting after logging in to your Sports Engine account by changing your notification options at https://www.ergyb.org/account or https://app.sportngin.com/user/account.

At that time, you can also see your settings for other organizations as well, so if your daughter has no other interest in their opportunities, you can remove yourself from those groups as well.

If you still have questions after reviewing your settings, the folks at Sports Engine can help you: https://sportngin.desk.com/
